Scientists have suggested that a concentrated extract of freeze-dried broccoli sprouts halves the risk of developing bladder tumors.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute scientists believe isothyiocyanates (ITCs) are responsible for the cruciferous vegetable's cancer-preventive properties.

According to the article published in the journal Cancer Research, broccoli sprout extract have approximately 30 times more ITCs compared to the vegetable.

Findings showed cancer in only 38% of the individuals who received high-dose broccoli sprout extracts and that tumors were smaller compared to the ones developed in other subjects.

The study also showed that other cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, kale and collard greens could reduce the risk of bladder cancer.
