Iraqi ambassador to Tehran says Baghdad is looking forward to Iranian president's historic trip and that all is ready for his visit.
Mohammad Majeed al-Sheikh stressed that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's trip to Iraq will have a significant effect on the advancement of reciprocal ties in various political, economic, industrial and trade sectors.
No new agreements will be signed during Ahmadinejad's visit, only the reactivation of previous accords, in particular joint projects, the Iraqi official underlined in an interview with IRNA.
Al-Sheikh enumerated the consensus over a two-way Basra-Abadan oil pipeline, activation of the Basra-Khorramshahr railway project and a $1 million loan to Iraq as the major issues to be discussed during President Ahmadinejad's visit to Baghdad.
The Iraqi envoy to Tehran pointed out that the Iranian president's trip to Iraq is unprecedented. Looking to both before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, this trip marks the first time an Iranian chief executive visits Iraq.
Commenting on the Mujahedin Khalq Organization terrorist group in Iraq, al-Sheikh admitted there is an MKO presence in Iraq, but noted the Iraqi government is opposed to their remaining in the country.
"Following Saddam's downfall, the orders necessary for their deportation were issued, but so long as they are not welcomed by any country, there is no way open, we have to keep them in our land," he added.
However, he gave assurances that they are not allowed to carry out any operation against Iran and can't even leave their garrison.
Concerning Iran and US negotiations over Iraq, the Iraqi envoy noted that the Iraq government hopes to upgrade the level of talks to ministerial.
In respect to the fourth round of Iran-US talks, al-Sheikh underlined that Baghdad has always been keen that Iran-US talks be held at the earliest possible date, but due to technical issues, the new round of talks have been postponed.
