The US military confirms that it has freed an Iranian national who had been arrested by US troops and kept in custody in Iraq since 2004.
The detainee, identified as Seyyed Heidar Alawi Mohammed, was released on Tuesday to the custody of the Iraqi government.
He was released after the military determined that 'he no longer poses a threat to the security of Iraq', the US military claimed.
Mohammed is the 10th Iranian to be released by the US military in less than two months. On November 9, the military released nine Iranians.
Among those freed in November were two of five Iranian diplomats detained in the northern city of Arbil.
