Iran has rejected the reports that President Ahmadinejad has accepted a proposal by Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium in a third country.

Dow Jones Newswires quoted President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday as saying that he would consult with Arab nations on a plan 'to enrich uranium outside the region in a neutral country such as Switzerland.'

The Presidential Office told Press TV that the President meant that Tehran would study the proposal, which is brought forward by a brotherly and friendly country, like other proposals.

Under a proposal put to Tehran by the six-member Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, a multinational consortium established by the PGCC would provide enriched uranium to power plants in Iran.

Later, the Saudi Foreign Minister rejected the report, saying that Iran had not discussed the Saudi-backed plan.

"They haven't discussed it. As a matter of fact, they refused it," Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-faisal told AFP.

It is not the first time President Ahmadinejad's words are misrepresented or distorted by western media. The statement attributed to him that 'Israel should be wiped off the map' is a distortion of the truth and has been determined by a number of Persian linguists, amongst them, Professor Juan Cole, to be a mistranslation.
