Iran's Majlis deputy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi
A senior Majlis deputy has assessed as crucial the upcoming visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi expressed hope that the visit would contribute to settling outstanding international issues as well as the case of the Bushehr power plant.

Pointing to the summit of the five Caspian Sea littoral states, scheduled to open in Tehran on Tuesday, he said that collective cooperation between Iran and its northern neighboring countries could serve as a model for promoting regional cooperation on the Caspian Sea's resources, the environment, energy and collective security.

The MP stated that cooperation between Iran and Russia would play an effective role in resolving regional issues, adding that the settlement of the Caspian Sea legal regime needs negotiation and time.

Boroujerdi noted in conclusion that the US, while causing more insecurity in Iraq and Afghanistan, contributes to the strengthening of extremism in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, and stressed that security in the region can be achieved solely by the regional countries themselves.
