UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon
UN secretary general has welcomed the recent agreement reached between Tehran and International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran's nuclear issue.

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon made this statement in a meeting with Iranian permanent representative to the UN Mohammad Khazaee on Wednesday.

In the meeting Khazaee elaborated on Iran's stance for using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

In a reference to a modality plan in which Iran has agreed to clear up all ambiguities about its nuclear program the envoy said this shows Iran's good intention to remove any kind of distrust over its nuclear program.

It is not reasonable that some western countries, particularly the US, try to find fault with IAEA whenever its reports are not in conformity with their policies, Khazaee insisted.

Some countries are trying to sully the reputation of IAEA with their illogical approaches and it is essential that the UN officials stop such moves by these countries in order to save the reputation of the UN and other multinational organizations, he said.

He also added that Iran is looking forward to actively participate in the next meetings on Iraq and Afghanistan.

The UN meetings on Iraq and Afghanistan will be held on September 22 and 23, 2007 in the United Nations headquarter in New York. Iran has been invited to participate in these sessions.
