A Spanish woman seriously injured in a suicide bombing that killed seven Spanish tourists in Yemen last week has been declared brain dead.

According to AFP, Maria Asuncion Victorica Arbaiza was injured and seven others killed in the July 2 attack in Marib, located 170 kilometers east of the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

"She has been in a brain dead state since Wednesday July 4 but she will be flown back to Spain next week," according to source at the Sanaa hospital where she is being treated.

As the Spanish tourists' were wrapping up a tour of an ancient temple in Marib, a suicide car bomber crashed into their convoy.

The bombing was the worst attack against Westerners in the Arabian Peninsula country since Al-Qaeda insurgents struck the US destroyer Cole in the southern port of Aden in 2000, killing 17 US sailors.

Yemen has offered a $75,000 reward for information leading to the capture of those behind the attack.

Yemen has been trying to encourage tourists who are put off by kidnappings and bombings and boost foreign investment as its oil resources dwindle.

Yemen joined the US-led war on terrorism after al Qaeda's 9/11 attacks on US cities.
