Nepal plans to hold a cabinet meeting on Mount Everest in order to highlight the impact of global warming on the Himalayas.

The press advisor to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Sunday that twenty-six ministers will travel to a point high up in the foothills of Everest next week.

“We're going to host a ministerial level cabinet meeting on Friday, December 4 at Gorakshep to draw the attention of the whole world,” AFP quoted Bishnu Rijal as saying.

The special climate-themed meeting comes ahead of UN climate talks in Copenhagen.

In October, the Maldives held an underwater cabinet meeting to warn of the effect of rising sea levels.
