The four leading Group of 77 countries — India, China, Brazil and South Africa — discuss ways to curb greenhouse gas emissions in Beijing.

This is while world leaders are to converge in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, on December 7-18 for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to address the threats of climate change.

The Environment ministers of the four countries met Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in Beijing on Friday to discuss possible emissions targets at the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in Copenhagen.

The summit has asked governments to work on common threats of climate change and arrive at a comprehensive, fair and effective deal that will ensure both long-term commitments and immediate action.

The Group of 77 was founded on June 15, 1964, by a coalition of developing nations to promote its members' collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations.

Elsewhere, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Friday and held face-to-face talks on climate change.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Climate Change Summit, in Port of Spain on Friday.
