China has strongly warned the US over allegations that Beijing is conducting cyber-espionage activities against Washington.

Last week, a report by a US congressional advisory panel accused China of cyber-spying.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang on Monday rejected the report, saying it was a twisted attack on China.

"This report disregards the facts, is full of bias and has ulterior motives," he said in a brief statement on the ministry's website.

In its 2009 report to Congress, the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission said there was growing evidence of Chinese state involvement in piercing US computer networks to gather useful data for its military.

According to the report, China was the most aggressive country in conducting espionage against the US, to obtain data and know-how to help modernize the military and aid economic development.

Meanwhile, Pentagon officials said that China was the biggest reason for a 20 percent rise in cyber-attacks against the US Defense Department in 2008.

The military has also warned that such attacks are expected to jump another 60 percent by the end of this year.

"We advise this so-called commission to not always look at China through tinted glasses and stop interfering with China's internal politics and damaging Sino-US ties," the Chinese spokesman said.

The remarks come after US President Barack Obama's visit to the Asian country last week to strengthen bilateral relations between the two states.
