The five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany are expected to come together in Brussels to review latest developments over Tehran's nuclear drive.
The Friday meeting will take place following Iran's announcement that it prefers to exchange its low-enriched uranium with nuclear fuel inside the country.
Under a mid-October proposal discussed in Vienna, Iran was asked to send most of its domestically produced low-enriched uranium (LEU) abroad for conversion into more highly enriched fuel rods for the Tehran reactor, which produces medical isotopes.
Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that although Iran would not send its 3.5-percent-enriched uranium out of the country for further reprocessing, it would still be willing to consider the nuclear fuel deal if the conditions of the procedural transfer were modified.
Cristina Gallach, spokeswoman of the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana, confirmed that the major world powers will hold a meeting in Brussels 'at the level of political directors' to discuss Iran's nuclear program.
Gallach noted that the European Union will host the meeting in the presence of Solana.
"The objective of the meeting is to review the latest developments on the Iran nuclear issue," she said.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko rejected the possibility of talks about imposing new sanctions on Iran over Tehran's objection to the UN-backed draft.
