Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki traveled to New Delhi on Monday for discussions with Indian officials on sharing information on terrorism and a trilateral multimillion-dollar gas pipeline.

Mottaki held talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna on the first day of his two-day trip.

The Indian officials expressed interest in the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline, which is also known as the Peace Pipeline.

The initial agreement on the $7.5 billion pipeline was signed in Tehran in May by the Iranian and Pakistani presidents.

The 2,600-kilometer (1,615-mile) gas pipeline was originally supposed to transfer Iran's gas to India and Pakistan.

However, due to rising tension between India and Pakistan, New Delhi stepped back from the later stages of negotiations, although it has never formally withdrawn from the project.

During the talks, the Indian officials asked Iran to sort out a number of issues, such as the security of the pipeline and the gas price formula.

Mottaki and Krishna also talked about terrorism coming from Pakistan and Afghanistan and the danger it poses to the region.

The Iranian foreign minister, who is making his second visit to India since 2006, also met with Vice President Hamid Ansari.
