While the British public is more skeptical than ever about the war in Afghanistan, UK Premier Gordon Brown has pledged his commitment to see the war through in the war-torn country.
In his speech in London, Brown emphasized that the UK army "will not walk away" from Afghanistan despite the risks posed to the British troops.
The developments come after five British soldiers were killed by an Afghan policeman in the volatile Helmand province on Wednesday.
Brown also argued that the main terrorist threat to Britain continues to emanate from the Afghanistan and Pakistan border region.
This is while the results of a poll conducted by YouGov show that 57 percent of the British people thought their troops were not winning the battle against the Taliban militants.
At least 230 British troops have been killed since the 2001 US-led invasion of the country.
Britain has the second largest contingent in Afghanistan and plans to deploy an additional 500 troops to the country to boost its presence to 9,500.
Despite the presence of over 100,000 foreign troops in the country, insurgency is at its highest level since the invasion.
