Clashes between Afghan security forces and the militants in northwest Afghanistan have left at least eight people from both sides dead, officials say.
Clashes broke out after Taliban militants attacked police personnel carriers and trucks in the Badghis province.
The governor of Badghis said two militants were killed and four others injured in the attack.
He also acknowledged that six police members surrendered to the Taliban militants along with their weaponry and ammunition.
This year has been the deadliest one for the foreign troops and Afghan forces since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001.
Besides military fatalities, countless number of Afghan civilians have been killed and many others wounded during the eight-year-old occupation.
