The US has promised Pakistan full support in Islamabad's fight against pro-Taliban militants in South Waziristan, as the death toll from a bombing in Peshawar has reached 105.
"These attacks on the innocent people are cowardly. They are not courageous, they are cowardly," US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters after a Wednesday meeting with her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad.
"Pakistan is in the midst of an ongoing struggle against tenacious and brutal extremist groups who kill innocent people and terrorize communities," Clinton said.
She stressed that fighting militancy was a mutual US-Pakistan interest, and said, "We will give you the help that you need in order to achieve your goal."
For his part, Qureshi said that Pakistani government was targeting the insurgents because it wanted peace and stability.
"We will be more determined to fight you (militants) and defeat you for our own reasons," he said hours after the insurgents attack in Peshawar.
Qureshi said that Pakistan has entered the final phase of war on terror, and expressed hope for closer cooperation between Washington and Islamabad.
On Thursday, Peshawar's main hospital said the death toll from the bombing reached 105.
"A total of 105 people have been killed. Seventy-one of them were identified. Thirteen are children and 27 were women," Doctor Zafar Iqbal told AFP news agency at the Lady Reading Hospital.
An intelligence official in Peshawar also confirmed the same death toll, AFP said.
