Stuttgart Germany has selected poetry by renowned modern Iranian poet Shams Langroudi to use on their public transportation system.
For the past 20 years, poems by national and international poets have been featured in Stuttgart's Tram Poetry project.
The latest round of the project is slated to feature a collection of Shams Langroudi's poetry.
According to the poet, the person in charge of selecting poems for the project, Ursula Hosch, explained in a letter to him that she had come across Shams' poetry through Susan Baghestani's translations on the internet, and asked his permission to use his poetry in the Tram Poetry project.
Shams Langroudi quotes Hosch as saying that the single Iranian poem used in this project was a rubayi (quatrain) by Khayyam.
After a certain number of journeys, the poems used in the project are replaced by new ones and the previous poems are published in book form.
