Roadside bombs and ambushes have left three more NATO soldiers dead in southern Afghanistan as casualties rise among the foreign forces occupying the country.

On Saturday, NATO said in a statement that two US troops were killed in a roadside bombing in the south of the country.

"Two US service members died as a result of an improvised explosive device attack ... in southern Afghanistan" the statement read.

In a separate incident, a Danish soldier lost his life in a firefight with Taliban militants in the same region.

Both incidents took place on Friday in the region where insurgency has skyrocketed over the past few months.

More than 420 foreign troops have died in Afghanistan this year.

2009 has been the deadliest year for US-led foreign forces since they invaded Afghanistan in late 2001.
