After a bloody attack in a southeastern Iranian borderline region, the Islamic Republic calls on the UN Security Council and international bodies to strongly condemn the terrorist event.

At least 41 people, including seven senior commanders from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) were killed in a Sunday morning bombing during a gathering of Shia and Sunni tribal leaders in the borderline region of Pishin. It was carried out by the Pakistan-based Jundallah terrorist group.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran expects that the Security Council react to this terrorist attack by condemning it in the strongest term(s)," the Iranian ambassador to the UN, Mohammad Khazaee, said in a letter to the permanent representative of Vietnam, which holds the rotating monthly presidency of the 15-nation council.

"Iran is determined to take all necessary measures to bring this terrorist group to justice," he added.

"We expect the international community, including the neighboring countries, to uphold their international obligations in this respect."

The Iranian ambassador said the Security Council's condemnation of the terrorist attack would convey the message to Jundallah and its allies that "terrorist moves in any form and by any body are condemned."

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday condemned a devastating bombing in southeast Iran.

"The secretary-general strongly condemns yesterday's terrorist attacks in the Sistan-Baluchestan province of Iran which resulted in the death of a large number of people and many injured," Ban's office said in a statement.
