The de facto President Roberto Micheletti is seeking international recognition.
A Honduran government mission is going to visit Washington next Monday to seek international recognition, the de facto President Roberto Micheletti says.

Micheletti, speaking to reporters on Saturday in the northern city of San Pedro Sula, noted that his coup-installed government intends to ensure that "the doors of the world are open to Honduras," AFP reported.

According to the interim President, the Honduran delegation will meet foreign ministers of the Organization of American States (OAS).

The interim leaders of the Central American country, who seized power following a June 28 military coup that removed President Manuel Zelaya from power, have so far rejected the mediation efforts by the OAS to solve the crisis there.

Earlier this week, another Honduran delegation visited OAS officials in Washington to discuss the organization's mediation efforts.

The Honduran team said they returned "happily" as the negotiations "were aimed at reconciling the views of the OAS' foreign ministers."

So far, regional efforts to reinstate Zelaya have failed.
