Russia: Bushehr power plant operational in 2009
Thu, 23 Jul 2009 07:32:19 GMT
Russian atomic agency chief, Sergei Kiriyenko
Russian atomic agency chief Sergei Kiriyenko says that Iran's first nuclear power plant in the southern city of Bushehr would be switched on by the end of this year.

"Plans remain for a start-up of the reactor near the Iranian city of Bushehr by the end of the year," Russia's state-run RIA-Novosti and ITAR-Tass quoted Kiriyenko as saying on Wednesday.

The Bushehr plant, which is situated near the Persian Gulf, is Iran's first nuclear power generation facility.

The nuclear power plant, which was built in a joint project with Moscow, is under the surveillance of its Russian fuel suppliers and inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The plant will run on Russian fuel, which is delivered to Iran in containers sealed and inspected by the United Nations nuclear watchdog.

JERUSALEM, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Israel wants to build a nuclear power plant without signing the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which needs assistance from the United States, local news service Ynet reported Friday. Israel has recently sent the requirement to the U.S. government for getting its approval, but receiving no response so far, the report said. A U.S. diplomat said at a UN meeting in May that the Obama administration expects Israel to join the NPT.
It will surprise me if it ever starts up.

Israel has the last say. I believe Israel will wipe it off the map.

Iran should load the fuel and start low power testing without Russia. Only reason I can see for Iran to continue being jerked around by Russia is if they are trying to get Russia to deliver advanced anti-aircraft defense systems before starting Bushehr up.No other country would put up with being ripped off and jerked around like Russia is doing to Iran. Iran should go slow and start the reactor up themselves to become independent.

Russia is just playing for time. I doubt if they ever intended to bring Bushehr on line. We have to find a way ourselves.

This is a non starter and the Russians will never be able to sell the same product anywhere else as they would not be trusted. As for Iran, this is another reason for not trusting any country with respect to Nuclear technology. We have to do it the hardway but we will do it.

I hope Kiriyenko will honour his word. Russia cannot afford to lose any of her neighbours as allies

Russia should provide security to their allies as well as technology. This is the only way for to build a good faithful relationship with their allies and to be a stronger Russia.

not going to happen. They are incompetent and in top of that they need permission from USA/Israel.
