The Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement says Israel will not be able to meet its objectives in the Gaza Strip through its brutal attacks on the Palestinian territory.

Speaking to the Palestine Today news site on Sunday, the Islamic Jihad's deputy chief Mohammad al-Hindi held the United States responsible for the continuation of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and its planned invasion of the southern city of Rafah.

“Washington’s statements are a green light for the occupation army to continue its aggression, especially the invasion of Rafah,” he said.

“The barbaric Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip will not secure any of the occupation’s goals.”

“The occupation […] is stuck in the mud of Gaza,” he added.

Hindi also referred to the latest round of Gaza ceasefire talks, during which the Hamas resistance group accepted a deal put forward by Qatari and Egyptian mediators.

However, Israel rejected the proposal, with prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying a withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip would “leave Hamas intact.”

“The resistance has shown flexibility in negotiations and agreed to a phased withdrawal of the occupation,” the Islamic Jihad official said.

The truth behind Netanyahu’s motives was “exposed to the world after the resistance agreed to the mediators’ proposal,” he added.

Hindi further emphasized that the Palestinian resistance negotiates in a way that serves the interests of the nation.

Netanyahu caught in ‘vicious circle of Gaza war’

In similar remarks, Ezzat al-Rishq, a senior Hamas official, said Netanyahu and his military are caught “in a vicious circle” by leading the “meaningless and aimless” Gaza offensive.

Israel waged its brutal war on the besieged Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The Tel Aviv regime has so far killed at least 34,971 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 78,641 others.

Earlier this week, Israeli troops took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza and started carpet-bombing the city. Israeli officials said it was the first step towards a full-scale assault on Rafah, home to around 1.5 million Palestinians who have been displaced due to the Gaza onslaught.
