The Iran men’s national Futsal team, domestically known as Team Melli Futsal, has ended its campaign at the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Asian Cup, and been crowned as the champion of the continental tournament.

The Iranian squad defeated the hosts 4-1 in the final showdown of the event at Bangkok Arena in the Nong Chok district of the Thai capital city of Bangkok on Sunday.

Iranians began the battle as expected, playing a high-pressure game with intense marking from the first blow of the whistle.

Salar Aghapour teed up Mahdi Karimi, who finished into the bottom corner of the net from the top of the arc in the first minute to give Team Melli Futsal the lead.

The hosts had their first look at goal in the fourth minute when Alongkorn Janphon lost his marker at the center before playing the ball square to the advancing Therdsak Charoenphong, who fired his effort over the bar.

Iran’s Saeid Ahmad Abbasi then made no mistake to double Iran’s lead in the fifth minute. He scored his eighth goal of the tournament as a result.

The onus was on Thailand to find their way back and they did so in spectacular fashion in the 25th minute, when Jirawat Sornwichian exchanged passes with Muhammad Osamanmusa before darting through the center and chipping the ball over Iran’s keeper Bagher Mohammadi.

Iran responded two minutes later when Sangsefidi lofted the perfect cross to an unmarked Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh to volley home to regain their two-goal advantage.

In the 34th minute, Mohammadi gained possession in his area before lofting the ball over to score Iran’s fourth to confirm his nation's 13th AFC Futsal Asian Cup title.

Earlier in the day, Uzbekistan clinched the third place, defeating 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after the exciting play-off against Tajikistan ended 5-5.

The 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, which was the 17th edition of the biennial international futsal championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), was held in Thailand between April 17 and 28.

Meantime, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi in a message congratulated the Iran men’s national futsal team on their glorious and outstanding victory and clinching of the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup title in Thailand.
