Thousands of lawyers march in Madrid to demand decent social security

Thousands of lawyers marched in Madrid on Saturday demanding decent pensions.

Footage shows protesters waving flags, chanting as well as carrying banners and placards reading 'Pension, my right', 'Before any government, I defend my pension' and 'Justice!', among others.

The protest was sparked by the Spanish government's proposal to force newly registered professionals to register under the self-employed RETA regime from 2027. This will remove the alternative cover option, as stated by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Protection and Migration.

The protest was called by the No J2 movement to demand that the Justice Minister provide access to RETA for all because, otherwise, they are unlikely to be able to rely on a decent pension.

Lawyers from various Spain's regions, including Catalonia, Galicia, Asturias, Andalusia, Extremadura, Basque Country, Navarra, Madrid reportedly took part in the protest.
