Iranian mourners have attended a funeral procession for the seven members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) who were killed in an Israeli terrorist attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria.

The funeral ceremony took place in the capital Tehran on Friday, coinciding with the International Quds Day commemorations, which is marked annually across the world on the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

During the ceremony, mourners were chanting slogans against Israel and its staunch ally, the US.

The martyrs’ bodies will be transferred to their hometowns where they will be laid to rest.

Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian consulate, situated next to the embassy building in Damascus’s Mezzeh district, on Monday afternoon.

The bodies of the seven martyrs, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, were repatriated on Wednesday night.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei led prayers over the bodies of the seven military members of IRGC during a ceremony attended by top military brass in Tehran on Thursday.

Iran has vowed a firm response to the Israeli crime that violated all international obligations and conventions.

Ayatollah Khamenei on Tuesday said brave Iranian men will "punish" Israel and make the evil regime "regret" its crime of assassinating the country's military advisors in Syria.

“The evil regime will be punished by our brave men. We will make them regret this crime and other ones, by God's will,” he said.

The following day, the Leader said the attack would fail to save Israel from its defeat in Gaza where it has been engaged in nearly six months of aggression against the Palestinians.

“The cowardly efforts by the Zionist regime like the one they carried out in Syria will not save them from defeat. They will of course receive a slap in the face for this move,” he said.

Israel waged its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 33,037 Palestinians and injured nearly 75,668 others.
