Thousands protest in Munich against German government tax hikes, Ukraine spending

Thousands of demonstrators turned out in Munich on Sunday as part of an independently organized protest against the German government and its fiscal policies.

Organized by local crane machinery businessman, Markus Huber, the protest ran under the motto: "Hand in hand for our country."

Protesters called for more government help for small and middle-sized businesses, more tax relief and help for German farmers. Many at the protest were also against money being spent on Ukraine.

Organizers had been expecting close to 30,000, but figures ran closer to between 10-20,000 participants.

Sunday's protests follow on from weeks of farmer and lorry protests calling for tax relief.
