Iranian wrestlers Mohammad Reza Geraei and Amirhossein Zare have been named 'Breakthrough Performance of the year award winner' by United World Wrestling.
Geraei came into 2021 without a world or Olympic medal under his belt, but the 25-year-old, known as the Ice Man, beat the odds to bag a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, adding it to his maiden World Championships gold medal in the Greco-Roman 67KG category.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old freestylist Zare had a colossal year. He collected an Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo, before upsetting 3-time world Champion Geno Petriashvili and Olympic gold medalist Taha Akgul to gain heavy-weight supremacy at the Oslo World Championships.
