Republican Glenn Youngkin’s stunning victory in the US state of Virginia is setting the stage for a possible Democratic loss in the upcoming 2022 midterms and even the 2024 presidential election.

The businessman, who promoted himself as an outsider candidate, snatched the governor’s mansion away from Democrats on Tuesday.

The victory came despite predictions for the victory of Terry McAuliffe, a past governor and close ally of the Clinton family, by US President Joe Biden.

Former President Donald Trump, who is hoping to return to the White House in the 2024 election, took credit for the Virginia victory.

“I would like to thank my BASE for coming out in force and voting for Glenn Youngkin. Without you, he would not have been close to winning,” Trump said in the second statement. “The MAGA movement is bigger and stronger than ever before.”

Biden inherited an extremely divided nation after the 2020 presidential election, but as Trump never conceded to him, his supporters still do not consider Biden as the president.

There are also assertions that the Virginia camp could have found a way to win without the Trump camp.

Trump could repeat allegations of fraud in the next presidential election but this time with more serious consequences than the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol by his supporters.

Youngkin reportedly closed the gap with McAuliffe by appealing to independent voters despite the latter’s attempts to link him to the former president.

Since the 2020 presidential election, national polls have shown a steady decline in Biden’s favorability among not just the undecided voters but even liberals.
