Hamas: Israel’s bombardment of Gaza will never shatter will of Palestinians

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says Israel will never be able to break the will of the Palestinian people by intensifying aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement on Sunday that the Israeli regime “is neither able to shatter the will of Palestinians nor capable of weakening intifada (uprising)” across Palestinian cities and towns by committing crimes and acts of aggression.

“The escalation of the Zionist attacks on Gaza is part of the regime's continued aggression against the Palestinian people and a desperate attempt to divert attention from the regime's internal crises, settlement activities and Judaism process.”

Israeli warplanes carried out new airstrikes and launched a number of missiles at a site near the al-Maghazi refugee camp in the central district of Deir al-Balah early Sunday.

Palestinian sources in Gaza said the overnight strikes damaged homes and other buildings in the targeted areas.

The Israeli military claimed in a statement that its aircraft targeted an underground ‘rocket production workshop’ belonging to Hamas, as well as a ‘weapons storage site, a training facility, and a tunnel.’

Also on Saturday, Israel bombarded areas in Gaza after Palestinian resistance fighters fired a rocket at the occupied territories in response to Israel’s crackdown on Palestinian prisoners.

Palestinian resistance groups – Hamas and the Islamic Jihad – have warned Israel about another full-scale defensive operation.

The last such operation, called the Sword of al-Quds, saw the resistance groups rain down around 4,000 rockets on the occupied territories.

The movements staged the defensive campaign in response to Israel’s last war on the territory that saw it bombing the enclave for 12 straight days in May.

The operation forced the regime to desperately call for a ceasefire and the initiation of foreign mediatory efforts in order to have the resistance groups stop their rocket barrages.

Gaza has been under an Israeli blockade since 2007 when Hamas took control of the coastal enclave.
