Bandar Abbas key port in south of Iran for transit, export

Major international corridors such as ports and rail routes are components of strategic transport infrastructure. Their development reduces costs of trade and will lead to industrial boom and economic growth.

To accomplish these goals, Iran has now invested in large amounts in the transport sector. The biggest Iranian port is Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province. Million tons of commodities are loaded and unloaded in Bandar Abbas.

Located 23 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas, Shahid Rajaee Port is Iran’s biggest container port. More than half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee. The port also accounts for over 85% of all container throughputs in the country.

At the moment, vessels with a capacity of 60,000 tons are able to berth at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas. Given its significant role in the country’s import and export, very crucial projects are being launched in Hormozgan province.

According to officials, the several development plans have gone operational lately to raise the transit capacity. The Port of Bandar Abbas is connected to the capital Tehran and the rest of Iran by road, rail, and air. The port’s most important imports are manufactured goods, and its exports include, industrial, agricultural and petrochemical products and rugs.
