Israel has held up delivery of 2,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine that was supposed to reach the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

Palestinians in the impoverished enclave have not yet received any doses. They say this inhumane move violates all international laws and human rights and Israeli should be held accountable for its consequences.

In a press release, Gaza’s Health Ministry said that doses were intended for medical staff working in emergency departments and the intensive care rooms designated for coronavirus patients.

Gaza’s Health ministry is still working with international organizations to pressure Israel into allowing the entry of the vaccines into Gaza as soon as possible.

Reports put the number of infection cases in Gaza at over 53,000.

Palestinians say Israel is committing a crime by holding up the delivery of the vaccine doses, which will have devastating consequences in the impoverished enclave. The ban of vaccine does entry comes as the Gaza Strip is struggling with a long-time blockade.
