Iran’s Basij Force helps low-income families from religious minorities

Iran’s Volunteer Basij Force Organization has launched a charity campaign that aims to identify and help the needy from different religious minorities.
The humanitarian move was announced during a press conference attended by representatives of Christian and Jewish communities in Iran's parliament.
The aid includes staple food and other basic needs, along with cash handouts that cover an average family's monthly spending.
The Basij Force says the charity move comes as many families are suffering under growing economic pressure stemming from inflation and exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Iran is a predominantly Muslim country, but it's also home to followers of other religions, such as Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians.
Organizers say regardless of their religious beliefs, these minorities are Iranians. They believe such humanitarian events strengthen national bonds and foster peaceful coexistence. Organizers say humanitarian efforts transcend ethnicity and faith.
This is especially the case during the pandemic, which has gripped all people, many of whom have lost their income and now depend on such donations to make ends meet.
