The daily pounding of popular protests and political bickering since the Beirut port blast seem to have been culminated with the surrender of a five-month-old cabinet.

Despite the resignation, angry mobs were still seen near the parliament building to some extent. The resignation was accepted by president Aoun who thanked the cabinet asked Diab's government to stay as a caretaker until a new cabinet is formed. Hard work which the head of the cabinet considered just not as strong as the entrenched corruption.

Experts believe the country was caught between two evils, having to deal with the many crises and the repercussions of the Beirut blast.

Just before the resignation, the cabinet took one final decision and referred the case of the catastrophic blast to the judicial council. This decision is seen by observers as an unusually rapid step.

With the resignation of the cabinet, and the continuous protests on the streets, it seems Lebanon is back to square one. A multi-faceted crisis in light of the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion, which symbolizes the country’s current situation.
