Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo has clinched his first MotoGP victory as he took the chequered flag in the season-opening Spanish Grand Prix at the Jerez circuit.

Quartararo became the first French rider to win a Moto Grand Prix since 1999 after clocking 41 minutes, 23.796 seconds.

Maverick Vinales, another Yamaha rider, finished second, four seconds behind Quartararo, while Ducati's, Andrea Dovizioso took third.

In addition, world champion, Marc Marquez, crashed out of the race, after suffering a huge accident in the closing stages.

The MotoGP season had been due to start in Qatar in March, but was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
