These were some of the disturbing scenes in central London on Saturday as members of the far-right who had pledged to protect Britain’s historic monuments from members of the anti-racism Black Lives Matter movement clashed with police and counter-demonstrators.

But it was not just those anti-racism protestors who were in the far-rights’ line of fire. Journalists were also targets.

This is the moment Press TV UK journalist and filmmaker Robert Inlakesh had his own run-in with some of the march’s nastier elements.

Robert sat down with me the next day to give his account of events after witnessing racists slurs that were being directed at BLM supporters and the general atmosphere of far-right intimidation.

Journalist working in the field accept a certain degree of personal risk but it is particularly galling to feel less than safe in the middle of central London with was police just meters away.

Boris Johnson, the British PM and senior members of his cabinet have described the behavior of far-right elements at Saturday’s protests as ‘thuggery’ and vandalism. It’s perhaps small comfort for those who risked their safety to bring the images and on-the ground account to the public that they were not offered better protection from this very thuggish element.
