Floods in southern China kill dozens, displace hundreds of thousands

Dozens have died and hundreds of thousands have been displaced by severe floods in tropical storms that battered China’s Guangdong province as seen in footage from Friday.

Severe floods have hit large parts of southern China as tropical storms have poured down since the beginning of June bringing accumulated precipitation of 100 to 250 millimeters in some regions.

Entire housing blocks and commercial buildings can be seen destroyed by the tropical cyclone which is predicted to last until the end of June according to local authorities. As the tropical storm moves towards the Philippines, preparations are being made as the cyclone may make landfall in the Hong Kong area over the weekend.
