Residential streets and businesses were flooded in the aftermath of tropical storm Cristobal hitting the city of New Orleans on Wednesday.

Workers could be seen draining the water in the most affected areas, where water levels reached up to one metre (3.2 feet) due to heavy rains.

Cristobal hit the US Gulf coast swamping Louisiana on Sunday and intensified across the Mississippi Valley, before heading towards Canada.
