Easing lock-down in Europe

Lockdown restrictions in Europe are being lifted one after another allowing people and business a breath of fresh air after months of agonizing uncertainty.

In England, all non-essential businesses are due to reopen in June, so are certain year groups in primary schools. Football fans will soon be watching their favorite matches and celebrating with socially distanced barbecues.

France is already looking at phase two of lifting the restrictions happening throughout the month of June with nearly all of the country except for Paris are now in a so-called "green zone", meaning they’re safe to reopen.

Since it imposed its lengthy lockdown in early March, Italy, the first country in Europe hit hard by COVID-19, has started relaxing some of its strict rules, allowing people to meet with family and friends in small numbers among other things.

In Spain too life is slowly but surely returning to normal with the government’s four-stage plan rolled out early this month, easing one of the strictest lockdowns in Europe, which saw children under 14 confined to their homes for six weeks.

Germany, one of the countries with the lowest number of deaths from the killer virus has begun opening up with a stern warning from Chancellor Angela Merkel about an ''emergency brake'' that’ll be applied anywhere there’s a surge in new infections.

Restrictions are also slowly being lifted in Belgium, a country that has seen a high number of deaths in care homes just like Britain.

The Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, Greece, and Poland, among others, are following suit opening many business and allowing freedoms denied during the lockdown.

As of now and over the next month restaurants, hairdressers, movie theaters, tourist attractions, railway stations, airports, and places of worship just to name a few will be open for business. While that is all seemingly good news, fears of a second wave of infections are still in the air.
