The International Swimming Federation has rescheduled the 2021 Japan’s aquatics world championships to 2022 to avoid a clash with the postponed Tokyo Olympics.

The decision follows the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to 2021. Therefore the event will be held from the 13th to the 29th of May in 2022 after consultation with broadcasters, athletes, and national federations. FINA added its World Masters Championships will also take place in Kyushu from the 31st of May to the 9th of June in 2022. Swimming's new schedule also avoids any overlap with the 2022 Commonwealth Games, due to be held in England.
