Pandemic impact on travel industry

The tourism industry is one of the hardest-hit by the outbreak of COVID-19 as lockdowns have all but ground the sector to a halt.

The situation in Europe is not good. Across the continent, desolation illustrates the tourism crisis, from empty squares like the Brussels Grand Place to deserted monuments like Rome’s Colosseum, while idle gondolas await non-existent tourists in Venice. Arrival areas in airports stand empty and beaches, basking in the sunshine, are deserted.
