Ex-Marseille president Diouf dies from coronavirus

Former Marseille president, Pape Diouf

Former Marseille president, Pape Diouf, has died after contracting the coronavirus.

68 year old Diouf, was admitted to hospital in his native Senegal over the weekend, and required breathing assistance. He was due to be flown to Nice this week, but his deteriorating condition made it impossible.

Diouf was well-regarded in France, as his former club wished him well in his battle against COVID-19, via social media, just hours before the news of his death. Diouf was president of Marseille from 2005 to 2009, when they finished runners-up in Ligue 1 twice and reached two French Cup finals, losing both.
