Union Berlin players waive salaries
The players at Bundesliga club Union Berlin have decided to waive their salaries to help ease the crisis caused by the outbreak of Coronavirus.
The Bundesliga has been suspended since March 13 due to the Coronavirus pandemic and consequently, the clubs have lost a significant amount of their revenue share.
The German club released a statement on Wednesday, saying that the “The first-team football department” have agreed to go without their wages to assist the club in fighting against the COVID-19 crisis. However, the statement did not say how long this would last.
The club’s coaching staff and employees have also agreed to work on a part-time basis, which will eventually result in pay cuts to help the club further. Union Berlin have had a respectable debut season in the Bundesliga, and are currently 11th in the table, having earned 30 points from 25 games.
