Australia pulls out of Tokyo 2020 Games

The Australian Olympic Committee has said it cannot assemble a team for the 2020 Tokyo Games due to the COVID-19 virus.

Matt Carlos the Australian Olympic Committee Chief Executive said the Executive Board had made its decision without waiting for the IOC's Advice, due to changing circumstances with the global pandemic in recent days.

He made the announcement after Canada said it would not send its team to the Olympics nor the Paralympics.

Opposition to holding the Games in July has risen sharply in recent days, with the US and the UK calling for a delay because of the pandemic.
