Day of rage held in West Bank against US stance on settlements

The occupied West Bank has witnessed a day of angry protests, against US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's declaration that Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank do not contravene international law.
Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Ramallah and other West Bank cities. Schools have shut early to allow students and parents to attend the protests.
This day of anger has meanwhile turned into also a day of sorrow, with the announcement of the death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails. Protesters lifted the photos of Sami Abu Diak, who died of cancer while serving three life sentences. He was detained by Israeli forces in 2002. Palestinians held Israel fully responsible for his death.
Following the rally in central Ramallah, scores from all walks of life marched toward areas where Israeli checkpoints are located across the occupied West Bank. Here at the Beit Ell military checkpoint in northern Ramallah, the protesters expressed their anger at both the US and Israeli injustice against them and called on world leaders to take action to end Tel Aviv's illegal occupation of their land.
Protesters burnt tires and threw homemade cocktails and rocks at Israeli soldiers, who fired live rounds, rubber bullets, and tear gas to disperse the Palestinian demonstrators.
