Israel launched new airstrikes on Gaza despite ceasefire

On Friday, Israel launched fresh air raids on the Gaza Strip. The attacks came despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Palestinian resistance groups which was announced on Thursday morning.
The Israeli military claimed the attacks targeted positions held by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.
Observers say the new round of Israeli airstrikes highlights the fragility of the truce.
The ceasefire on Thursday followed a two-day flare-up in violence which was triggered after Israel killed a top Islamic Jihad commander in an air raid on his home in Gaza.
Palestinians responded by launching rocket attacks while the Israeli military continued bombarding the besieged enclave, killing dozens of Palestinians.
Now resistance groups say they will remain committed to the ceasefire as long as Israel respects it. Islamic Jihad says it is studying the situations carefully and it won't sit idle in case of any Israeli attack.
Meanwhile, Palestinians are calling on the international community to take action and put an end to Israeli crimes against them.
People here say as long as Tel Aviv is not held responsible for its crimes, Israeli violations will continue to claim civilian lives in Gaza and make life harder for the residents of the besieged enclave.
