Metropolitan police officer charged with assault for battering teen with baton

Six months ago a video went viral on social media, filmed in Romford, London, showing a police officer, beating a 17 year old handcuffed black boy, as the teenager begs the officer to stop. The video sparked outrage, and is one many of cases of documented police brutality.

Despite the fact officer Kevin Rowley has been charged officers almost never receive a conviction. Officer Kevin Rowley is due to face the courts again in January vowing to clear his name while others will be hoping be is convicted of assaulting a black child.

Activists and campaigners will welcome the charges leveled at police officer Kevin Rowley, but will also be watching the case closely, hoping that this time, the courts will finally send a message to government and the police, that they themselves at not above the law.
