Kakko, who'd scored 5 goals in his past 7 games, put the rangers in front on a breakaway, and Adam Fox made it 2-nothing with 11 seconds to go in the 1st.
The Penguins rallied in the 2nd, tying the game 2-all with goals from Justin Schultz and Jared McCann. With no goals in the 3rd, the game went on to the extra session, in which Kakko bagged his 2nd after 2 minutes and 24 seconds to seal the deal. Alexander Georgiev also helped in the win as he stopped 30 shots for New York.
