Roger Federer has revived his hopes of clinching a record seventh title at the ATP finals after outplaying Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in Group B.

Federer, who had a disappointing start in London following a straight sets loss against Dominic Thiem on Sunday, needed a marathon 42 minutes to take the first set in a tie break.

He then opened the second with a break of serve and saved three break points en route to a 6-3 win, wrapping up the contest in 78 minutes.

The Swiss maestro needs another victory on Thursday which is against Novak Djokovic to advance to the semi-finals. That’s while Berrettini will be seeking to become the first Italian to win a match at the season-ending championships as he takes on Dominic Thiem.
