Buch Wien, the Austrian capital’s annual book fair is hosting hundreds of publishers from around the world, including Iran.

Iranian architecture and poetry usually attract the most interest.

Organizers say they want to use the opportunity to foster common understanding by introducing as many aspects of Iranian culture as possible.

Professor Hamid Kasiri is the first author to publish academic books on Shi'ism in German. He says he wanted to make up for a lack of resources in this area.

Vienna’s annual book fair is one of hundreds of literary events that extend to libraries, museums and cinemas and mark the the week-long national reading festival.

One of the main aims of events like this is to make people want to read. As one author puts it, when you unexpectedly enter the world of a book, there’s nowhere else you’d rather be.
