Pakistan, India tensions deepen after border clashes

This is the aftermath of border clashes between Pakistan and Indian forces in the disputed Kashmir region. The damage is visible here in this local market in the Neelum Valley located in the Pakistani administered Kashmir.

Islamabad says at least 6 people including a soldier were killed when Indian army restored to firing. There were reports of casualties on the Indian side too.

India on August 5 revoked the special status of disputed Jammu and Kashmir and since then put the region under lock down.

Pakistan has rejected India’s move, calling it illegal and in violations of the UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

Islamabad says there is no possibility of dialogue with New Delhi at this stage and the situation is very tense both inside Kashmir and along the Line of Control.

There have been both claims and counterclaims about the latest border clashes between the two neighbors. India insists that it has targeted the so-called terrorist camps but Pakistan has strongly dismissed the claim.

In an unprecedented move, Pakistan has invited the acting Indian ambassador for a visit to the Line of Control along with other heads of diplomatic missions. Islamabad says the purpose of this invitation is to counter the Indian allegations that there were any terrorist camps on the Pakistani side.
