European Open: Murray tops Wawrinka

@AFP

Andy Murray has clinched his first ATP tennis title since 2017 with a 2 sets to 1 victory over Stan Wawrinka at the European Open final in Belgium.

Former world number 1 Murray couldn’t overcome the 3-time Grand Slam champion and lost the opener 6-3.

However, the 2016 Wimbledon champ had a stunning comeback from a set behind and managed to win the next two, both at 6-4 to take his first title after 2 years and the 46th of his career.

The Rio Olympic medalist had undergone surgery in January and was playing in just his 7th tournament since returning to the singles.

The victory, meanwhile, will allow Murray to make a giant leap in the rankings, of more than 100 positions and will stay very close to the top 100.Save
